Native American Health Information Services

Quality Health Information for Native Americans

The Native American Health Information Services Program connects HSLIC to Native Americans in New Mexico. The program offers resources to health care providers serving Native Americans and to community members of the 22 Native nations in the state. The program also addresses the health information needs of the Native American community at the University of New Mexico.

Native American Health Information Services are focused on health information delivery, health information training and collection development consultation.

Native Health Database

The Native Health Database contains citations and abstracts of health-related articles, reports, surveys and other documents pertaining to the health and health care of American Indians, Alaska Natives and Canadian First Nations. If available, a copy of the article will be sent to the requester free of charge.

Health Information Training

Classes are offered to assist in finding, evaluating and using relevant health information for:

  • Health care providers
  • Schools
  • Libraries
  • Community groups

Collection Development Consultation

Collection development consultation offers guidance in establishing health information collections for:

  • Schools
  • Libraries

Association of American Indian Physicians — AAIP’s membership is made up of American Indian and Alaska Native physicians who are licensed to practice medicine in the United States.
Indian Health Service — The Federal Health Program for American Indians and Alaska Natives
National Indian Health Board — Advocating on behalf of all Tribal Governments and American Indians/Alaska Natives in their efforts to provide quality health care
Native Research Network — A leadership community of American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian and Canadian Aboriginal persons promoting integrity and excellence in research
