Hard-Drive Erasure

This service securely and permanently removes all data from any computer in preparation for the computer to be sent to surplus.

The hard-drive erasure process will be completed within two business days of receiving the computer at the HSLIC Service Point.

What We Do

Through this service, HSLIC ensures erasure of all data from a computer's hard drive based on U.S. Department of Defense standards. If the hard drive has failed and cannot be erased, it will be destroyed.

Why Do I Want It?

Hard-drive erasure will guarantee that there will be no retrievable data from a computer's hard drive in the event that the computer is put back into use or sold after it has been sent to surplus property.

Who Is This For?

This service is available to HSC faculty, staff and student employees with UNM owned computers.

What Do I Need?

Before scheduling an appointment, you must create a service request and remove from the hard drive any data you wish to keep.

How Much Does It Cost?

There is no cost for this service.
