Borrowing Privileges

You may retrieve items from open library shelving and bring them to the Service Point for checkout, and you may request to check out anatomic models from the locked case near the Service Point.

What We Do

You may borrow up to 10 media or equipment items and, with the exception of a minor number of restricted items, take them out of the library building. Loan periods are for set times depending on the type of material being checked out. For your convenience, you will receive a courtesy email notice when your materials are overdue. In the rare case of extremely late or non-returned items, you will be billed for replacement costs, processing and billing fees as applicable. Most loans (except reserve and reference items) can be renewed up to three times if no other user has requested the item.

You can designate other individuals to borrow under your name. The designated individual will be required to show proper identification for your protection. Loan periods and maximum checkout limits can be extended in special cases. Please inquire at the Service Point for details.

Who Is This For?

Library access is freely available to all UNM faculty, students and staff upon presentation of a valid LoboCard or HSC badge. Corporations such as hospitals, clinics and law firms can purchase borrowing privileges. Additionally, free borrowing privileges are available to bona fide faculty, staff and students of institutions in NMCAL (New Mexico Consortium of Academic Libraries) upon presentation of their NMCAL passport and institutional ID. 

How Do I Get It?

You may check items out at the HSLIC Service Point. Loan periods may be renewed by phone, mail or on the HSLIC website at http://hslic-unm.on.worldcat.org/myaccount .

What Do I Need?

You will need a valid UNM LoboCard or HSC badge, HSLIC-issued borrower's card, driver's license or NMCAL passport to borrow resources.

How Much Does It Cost?

There is no cost to UNM faculty, students or staff who return materials on or before their due dates. Corporations may purchase borrowing privileges for $200 per year. UNM and NMCAL members pay no fees for materials returned on or before their due dates.
